James Roy Richard

August 8, 1927 - February 9, 2023

James Roy Richard, age 95 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday morning February 9, 2023. He was a native of Sunset, Louisiana, born on August 8, 1927 and had lived in Franklinton for over 40 years. Roy was veteran of the United States Navy. He attended LSU before starting a long career in the banking industry. He worked at Community Bank in Raceland and American Bank in Baton Rouge before becoming the President of Washington Bank and Trust in Franklinton, ultimately retiring in 1995. Roy was a Master Mason and member of the Franklinton Masonic Lodge #101. He was a longtime active member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years. Roy was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing golf and watching old western TV shows and movies. As a younger man, he was an avid bike rider, often going on long leisurely rides for many miles. Roy will forever be remembered as an honest business man that loved his Lord and family with all his heart.

Survived by: Wife of 65 years: Betty Peacock Richard of Franklinton; Daughter: Robin “Buffy” Wade of Ponchatoula; Granddaughter: Adair Elizabeth Wade; Great-grandson: Stone Eli James Wade; Brother: Joe Richard of Sunset, LA; Sister: Eldine Burleigh of Carencro, LA; Also numerous nieces, nephews and other family members

He was preceded in death by his parents Jean Pierre Richard and Ada Venable Richard, sister Lilly Richard, brothers and sisters in law John and Mae Richard, Stephen and Nathalee Richard, Jessie and Lou Richard, sisters and brothers in law Mary and Edouard Comeaux, Mabel and D.C. Rose, Bertha and Larry Comeaux, Elvina and Norman Blackwell, Lou Ella and Johnny Lucas, sister in law Doris Richard, brother in law Hilary Burleigh.

Visitation will be at Holy Family Catholic Church (1220 14th Ave., Franklinton, LA 70438) on Tuesday February 14th from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral mass will be held in the church at 11:00 am Tuesday with Father Kyle Sanders officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenoaks Memorial Park’s Garden Mausoleum (9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge) at 2:00 pm Tuesday.

The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to his loving caregiver Janice, nurse Michelle with Home Instead Senior Care and to the staff of St. Tammany Hospice for all their support.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to Holy Family Catholic Church at the address above.
