Obituary

Houston Kent Stogner

January 22, 1958 – November 11, 2022

Houston Kent Stogner of Dexter, Mississippi passed from this life into God’s presence on Friday, November 11, 2022 at the age of 64. He was born in Tylertown to Rossie and Fannie Stogner and has remained a lifelong resident of Walthall County.

Kent was a graduate of Dexter High School, Southwest Mississippi Junior College, and Mississippi State University where he received a degree in chemical engineering. He worked at the Bogalusa Paper Mill for 38 years before retiring in 2016. Kent was encouraging, humble, kind, patient, and had a positive influence on anyone who knew him. He was known for his unforgettable laugh. Kent enjoyed listening to classic rock music, playing golf, and all things Mississippi State. Kent enjoyed all sports, especially ice hockey and golf. To say that he was an avid golfer does not accurately describe his enthusiasm for the game. Kent proudly served as a board member of the Tylertown Country Club. He was also a man of deep faith and served his community and his Lord through his longtime membership with Crystal Springs Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. Kent loved being with friends, family, and traveling in a large family pack. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, brother, "Kent-Kent", and friend.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Stogner; and his father-in-law, Billy Ray Smith.

Kent is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cindy Stogner, a daughter, Sarah Brown (Steven); a son, Blaine Stogner; his mother-in-law, Frances Smith; two sisters-in-law, Susan Johnson (Brett) and Mary Jane Fruge (Jerry); a grandson, Hudson Kent Brown; two nieces, Katherine Todd (Tyler) and Debera Reeves (Scott); and three nephews, Michael Stogner (Wendy), Zackery Johnson (Brittany), and Chess Johnson as well as great nieces and nephews, whom he greatly adored.

There will be a visitation for Kent at Crystal Springs Baptist Church on Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Danny Stevens, will be at the church on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 12:00pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery assisted by Les Lampton, Mickey McDaniel, Barry Stringer, Chuck Stogner, Jake Smith, Guy Copeland, Cass Barnes, and Craig Pigott serving as pallbearers. The Deacons of Crystal Springs Baptist Church, Scott Luper, Bruce Knippers, Bill Sartin, Mike Laird, Randy Pigott, David Lee, Jimmy Lowery, and Rod Ervin will be serving as honorary pallbearers.
