Obituary

Melvin Lowe, Sr.

September 24, 1946 - September 3, 2022

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

On Saturday, September 3, 2022, Melvin Lowe, Sr. (Big Melvin), a native and resident of Franklinton, Louisiana passed away with family. Melvin was the eldest of nine children born to the Late Melton Lowe, Sr. and the Late Ada Hazel Lowe. Big Melvin was known and loved by many from Franklinton and the surrounding areas. He retired from Avondale Shipyards as a pipefitter for over forty years. He loved gardening and the outdoors.

Melvin Lowe, Sr. was a member of Bethel Church of Christ Holiness USA. At an early age, he entered into marriage with Doris Long Lowe and to this union six children were born. Melvin and Doris were married for fifty-two years before his passing.

Melvin Lowe, Sr. leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Doris Long Lowe; four daughters, Caterria (Billy Ray) Hart of Franklinton, Louisiana, Tamoria Lowe of Franklinton, Louisiana, Kendra (Darrell Fowler) Lowe of Franklinton, Louisiana, and Brianna Lowe of Mandeville, Louisiana; two sons, Melvin Lowe, Jr. of Franklinton, Louisiana and Corey Lowe of Bogalusa, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Arajuana Lowe, Lamarius Lowe, Tresza Lowe, Skylar Lowe, and Rivar Lowe all of Franklinton, Louisiana; two great granddaughters, Loyalty Magee and Ariyah Lowe; five sisters, Mary Ann Warren of Franklinton, Louisiana, Alma (Fred) Brumfield of New Orleans, Louisiana, Ada Brumfield of New Orleans, Louisiana, Freddie Mae Lowe of Franklinton, Louisiana, and Lisa (Keno) Spurlock of Baker, Louisiana; one brother, Floyd (Annette) Lowe of Franklinton, Louisiana; six sisters-in-law, Lenoria (Rodney) Davis of Franklinton, Louisiana, Evelyn Smith of Franklinton, Louisiana, Bama (Joseph) Wilson of Spokane, Washington, Beverly Magee of Franklinton, Louisiana, Pricilla Lowe of Franklinton, Louisiana and Dorothy Faye Williams of Franklinton, Louisiana; two brothers-in-law, Alvin (Barbara) Long, Sr. of New Orleans, Louisiana and Craig Long of Houston, Texas; two special nephews La’Roy (Sherry) Burton and Kyrel “Biscuit” Burton, and two special nieces La’Tia Lowe and Armiyah Burton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melton Lowe, Sr. and Ada Hazel Lowe; three brothers, Melton Lowe Jr., Joseph Lowe, and Marvin Lowe; and one granddaughter Ayanni S. Lowe. 

Viewing will be Friday, September 9, 2022 from 9am –11am, at Bethel Church of Christ Holiness , followed by funeral service at 11:00 am, with Pastor Keno Spurlock - officiating. Interment will be at the Wilson Cemetery.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
