8 Pounds of Meth Found During Slidell-area Traffic Stop / Two Arrested

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office reports that last Sunday (August 25, 2022), STPSO detectives conducted a traffic stop on a Buick Lacrosse after the vehicle’s driver was observed violating several traffic laws on Interstate 10 near Slidell. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of nearly 8.68 pounds of methamphetamine and a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

The driver, 36 year-old Eric Mosley, Jr., and his passenger, 32 year-old Rusty Smith, both residents of the Mobile, Alabama area, were arrested and booked into the Saint Tammany Parish Correctional Center for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine. Mosley was also booked for Illegal Carrying of a Weapon While in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.

“Too often criminals attempt to use our local highways and interstates as passageways to transport illegal drugs,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “If you are found to be transporting drugs into or through St. Tammany Parish, you will be arrested.”
