Willie Lee Newman, Jr.

September 30, 1943 - May 14, 2022

Willie Lee Newman, Jr., a resident of Kentwood,  LA, died peacefully Saturday, May 14, 2022,  after an extended illness.  He was born September 30, 1943 and was 78 years old.  Known to all as Billy, he was also affectionately referred to as "Nub" by his hunting and boilermaker friends.  He was a member of Boilermaker Local 582 and Kentwood Masonic Lodge 248 .  He was a Shriner and gave faithfully to Shriners' Hospital for Children.  He loved the outdoors, hunting, and having a good time.  He adored his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He fought many health issues over the last number of years, but his grandchildren, especially twin grandsons Hayden and Brayden, kept him young at heart.  

He is survived by 2 sons, Perry Newman (Ginger)  Kentwood, LA  and Randall Newman (Hannah) Labadieville, LA; 2 daughters, Karen Mizell (Mickey) Amite, LA and Laura Newman-Alvarez (Frank) Kentwood, LA; 2 step-daughters, Tabitha Coleman (Andy) Denham Springs, LA,  and Heather Phillips (Russell) Summit, MS ; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Myrtie Newman Wofford,  Kentwood, LA; 3 nephews, 1 niece, and countless cousins. 

Preceded in death by his father, Willie Lee Newman Sr., born in Kentwood, LA and mother, Dicy Neva Smith, born in Tinus, LA. 

A special thanks to the nursing and support staff of St. Helena Parish Hospital/Rehab/Nursing Home facility for the attentive care and comfort they provided until the end. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners' Hospital for Children or St. Jude Research Hospital for Children. 

Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, on Wednesday, May 18th, from 9 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Masonic service at 11:45 followed by religious service at 12 noon. Services conducted by Vince Estes. Interment New Zion Cemetery, Kentwood, La.
