Johnnie Lee Neal

October 30, 1947 - March 10, 2022

Johnnie Lee Neal was born in Sunflower, Mississippi on October 30, 1947 to West and Daisy Neal.

He received his former education in Grayland at Roosevelt High School. He worked at the Steele Mill and entered into the Navy. He became a member of Greater Salter Chapel AME Church, late in life under Pastor Debra Branch.

Poppa John has four godsons Jeremiah Nicholson, Ad’yen, Amir, Andrew, Jr., and a special great-grandson (Terrance Griffin), he loved these boys so much. They became very much a part of his life. He taught the boys a lot about riding the lawn mower and tractor.

On January 1, 1980, Johnnie Neal united in holy matrimony with Gloria Lewis and together they raised Vanessa and Antone Lewis whom he also loved.

Poppa John was a very quiet and laid-back man.  He loved to fish, barbecue, shoot pool and work in the yard.  He worked at Johnson Controls as a COS Operator for 23 years.  He moved to Bogalusa.  In 2000 and continued to work in Milwaukee, Wisconsin until 2003 then moved back to Bogalusa permanently.

He leaves to cherish his beloved wife, Gloria Neal; three sons, Johnnie Neal, Jr. (Toya), Donte Woodard both of Michigan, and Eric Neal of Gary, Indiana; one daughter, Lakryra Woodard of Gary, Indiana; two brothers, Michael and Vincent Neal of Milo, La; two sisters, Mary Neal of Madison, and Dorothy Fine of Gary, Indiana; sisters-in-law, Juanita Warren of Bogalusa, La, Darleane Lewis, Ethel Mae Morris, Linda Washington, Jennie (Mark) Curry of New Orleans, LA, and Vivian Alexander of Milwaukee,; brothers- in- law, Jeffery Lewis of Slidell, LA, and Robert Lewis of Bogalusa, LA;  and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daisy and West Neal; brother, Eric Neal; father -in-law and mother-in-law, Volian and Charles Lewis; step-father-in-law, Tulos Jefferson; two stepchildren, Vanessa Minox, and Antone Lewis

A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM on March 26, 2022 at Greater Salter Chapel A.M.E. Church.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
