Margaret Stafford Burch

March 16, 1930 - March 28, 2022

Margaret Stafford Burch, age 92 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away Monday morning March 28, 2022. She was born on March 16, 1930 in Greensburg but lived her entire life in Franklinton. After graduating from Franklinton High School, Margaret attended Southeastern Louisiana University, where she obtained a degree in Business Education. She later received her Master’s Degree from LSU. In 1950 she returned to Franklinton High School teaching business subjects for 30 years before retiring. Margaret loved and impacted the lives of countless students during her teaching career. She married the late Dorman Paul Burch in 1951 and together they raised their 2 daughters in Franklinton.

Margaret was a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where through the years she was active in many activities for the church and her church family. In earlier years, Margaret first joined Fisher United Methodist Church, where her great-grandfather served as the first pastor after the church was organized. She was also a longtime member of the Waverly Club, having once served as president and later becoming an associate member. Margaret enjoyed traveling, writing (especially poetry) and spending time with her family.

She is survived by: 2 Daughters and Sons in law: Brenda and James “Chip” Burris of Franklinton, Sandra and Chuck Stogner of Millbrook, AL; 4 Grandchildren and Spouses: Bridget Burris Linn and fiancĂ© Judge Vinny Lobello, Candice Fontenot Barber and Matt Barber, Brandi Burris Casanova and Casey Casanova, Carson Fontenot (presently serving in the U.S. Navy in Japan) and Rosalie Fontenot,14 Beloved Great-grandchildren; Brother and Sisters in law: Rev. Larry Stafford and Rita Stafford of Monroe, Lillian Stafford of Franklinton; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

She was also preceded in death by her parents Norman James “Pompey” Stafford and Etna Lindsey Stafford, sister Etna Lou Stafford East, brother James Stafford, Jr. and great-grandson Jackson Lang.

Visitation will be at Centenary Methodist Church (1015 Cleveland Street, Franklinton) on Saturday April 2nd from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 am Saturday with Rev. Larry Stafford and Rev. Cecil Locke officiating. Burial will follow in Ellis Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to Centenary Methodist Church at the address above.
