Fred Spears, Jr.

April 2, 1948 - March 10, 2022

Fred Spears, Jr., age 73 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away late Thursday night March 10, 2022 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He was a 1966 graduate of Franklinton High School before obtaining a degree in Radiology. Fred served the residents of Washington Parish as an X-Ray technician at Riverside Medical Center for over 40 years. During this time he supervised numerous young people during their training and internships, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He was beloved by his countless coworkers and clients through the years. Fred was always quick to play a prank on his staff or even an unsuspecting patient, just to keep things fun and lighthearted during a sometimes difficult situation. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton and a member of the Long Range Skeet Club. Fred loved gardening and enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was an avid sports fan and loved traveling to LSU sporting events with his family, including football games in Los Angeles and Kentucky last season. Fred also loved spending vacation time with his family and grandchildren with recent trips to New York City and Lake Powell. He will be forever remembered by his family and close friends for all the great times they shared at LSU games, Mardi Gras parades, cookouts, and parties.

Survived by: His wife of 52 years: Karen Jones Spears of Franklinton; Daughters: Kelly Spears of Baton Rouge, Nikki Spears Jones of Mandeville; Son and Daughter in law: Chesley Fred and Becky Spears of Franklinton; Grandchildren: Karson Jones, Brady Jones, Braxton Jones, Brynlee Spears, Harper Spears, Grace Karen Spears, Benjamin Spears; Sisters and Brothers in law: Margie and Jimmy Busby of Amite, Emma Lou Spears, Loretta S. Bracey both of Franklinton, Gaylon and Tammi Spears of Texas; Brothers in law and Sisters in law: Robert Truett and Darlene Jones of Franklinton, Diane and Bill Green of Huntsville, TX, David and Melinda Jones of Franklin, NC; Also numerous beloved nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fred Spears, Sr. and Ethelee Schilling Spears, his grandparents, brothers in law Sidney Bracey, Harold Ray Stickland, nephew Chase Busby, father in law and mother in law Truett Jones and Bernice Claridy Jones.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Monday March 14th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Monday with Dr. Cody Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Morris Cemetery.

Fred was a big sports fan and always liked watching young people play the sports they enjoyed. In his honor and in lieu of flowers the family encourages memorial donations to Franklinton Soccer Club, 39497 Hwy. 1055, Mount Hermon, LA 70450 or to Franklinton Dixie Baseball, P.O. Box 393, Franklinton, LA 70438.
