Ross LeGette Burris

April 13, 1934 - December 12, 2021

Ross LeGette Burris of Franklinton, LA passed away on Sunday December 12, 2021. He was a resident of Wesley Manor Retirement Center in Hattiesburg, MS.

LeGette returned to his hometown of Franklinton after living in Washington, D.C. where he enjoyed a distinguished career employed by the Smithsonian Institution serving as the Smithsonian’s specialist for U.S. metals in the Division of Numismatics. He was a graduate from Franklinton High School, the University of Arkansas and also served his country in the U.S. Army. LeGette was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton and Morgan Sunday School Class.

Survived by: Nephew and great niece: Stephen Burris and Madeleine Burris of Franklinton; Cousins: Mary Ruth LeGette Briggs of Scooba, MS, Lynn and Katrina LeGette of DeKalb, MS, Diane LeGette of Decatur, GA, Donn LeGette of Duluth, GA

He is preceded in death by his parents C. A. Burris, Sr. and Mary Leake LeGette Burris, brothers Stephen Hampton Burris and Cecil A. “Bo” Burris, and sister Mary Jane Burris.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial, alongside his parents, was in Ellis Cemetery in Franklinton.
