Gerald A. Jones

November 21, 1948 - December 2, 2021

Gerald A. Jones, age 73 and a resident of Franklinton died early Thursday morning December 2, 2021 at University Hospital in New Orleans. He was a longtime state certified residential appraiser working throughout the Washington Parish and the surrounding area. Gerald was an active member and Deacon of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he served on numerous committees and projects through the years. He was formerly the Children’s Sunday School director and provided Thanksgiving meals through the “To Franklinton With Love” group. He traveled on several mission trips, alongside his church family and others, to Honduras, Panama and the Ukraine. Gerald was a founder and treasurer of the American Ukrainian Evangelical Fellowship and even received an honorary Doctorate degree from the Odessa Theological Seminary in the Ukraine.

He not only served his church and Lord, but also served his community as a member of the Louisiana Army National Guard and as a volunteer fireman in Franklinton. Gerald served on numerous committees with the Washington Parish Free Fair Association and was a past President of the Board and leader of many different aspects of the Fair. He also served as a leader of the 4-H Junior Livestock shows and events. Gerald loved fishing and going camping in his RV. He was also a big LSU Tigers fan. Gerald was always a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

Survived by: Wife of 51 years: Evelyn Kay Barber Jones of Franklinton; 2 Sons and Daughters in law: Darren Jones, P.H.D. and Shannon Jones of Lubbock, TX, Ryan Jones, M.D. and Tracy Jones of Shreveport; Daughter: Olga Shemchishina Moffett of Hattiesburg, MS; Grandchildren: Anison Jones, Preston Jones, Keegan Jones, Emerson Jones, Palmer Jones, Hudson Jones, Crawford Jones, Amarie Moffett; Brother and Sister in law: Eric and Janet Jones of Covington; Also numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends

He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred A. Jones and Hazel Pittman Jones, brother and sister in law Fred and Carolyn Jones, father in law and mother in law Newton and Dorothy Barber, sister in law Linda Barber Harper.

Visitation will be at Hillcrest Baptist Church (2201 Washington Street, Franklinton) on Sunday December 5th from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and after 9:00 am on Monday. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 am Monday with Dr. Gene Richards officiating. Burial will follow in Carlee’s Garden Cemetery at Hillcrest Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to the American Ukrainian Evangelical Fellowship, AUEF (1526 14th Ave., Franklinton, LA 70438).
