Charles Edwin Wood

May 5, 1950 - October 13, 2021

Charles Edwin Wood, age 71 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away Wednesday afternoon October 13, 2021 at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He attended Franklinton High School before joining the United States Navy at the age of 17. Charles served his country on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Independence during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he worked off-shore as an electrician for 23 years. Charles was a self-employed refrigeration and appliance repairman for the last 20 years, working throughout the area. He was a longtime member of Poplarhead Missionary Baptist Church.

Survived by: Wife of 50 years: Diane Sumrall Wood; 2 Daughters and Sons in law: Sarah and Brian Brock, Wendy and Cole Bickham; 4 Grandchildren: Emily and Byron Welch, Trent Brock, Beau Bickham, Brayden Bickham; Great-grandsons: Bryson Welch, Kye Welch; 2 Brothers and a Sister in law: Thomas and Debbie Wood, James Yates Wood, Jr.; 2 Sisters and a Brother in law: Melaney Wood Rauch and Alan Rauch, Susan Wood; Sister in law: Barbara Luper and her family; Also numerous nieces, nephews and other family members

He was preceded in death by his parents James Yates Wood and Verl Warren Wood, sister Helen V. Wood, father in law and mother in law Willie and Dorothy Sumrall, brother in law Hayward Luper.

A graveside funeral service will be held in the Poplarhead Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery at 11:00 am Saturday October 16th with Eld. Burdette Thomas and Eld. Edward Penton officiating.

Pallbearers: Trent Brock, Beau Bickham, Brayden Bickham, Jacob Luper, Justin Luper, Cole Luper
