Elder Lawrence Garrett, Sr.

May 03, 1939 - August 29, 2021

“May the work I’ve done, may the life I’ve lived speak for me”

Elder Lawrence Life Garrett, Sr. was born on May 3, 1939 to the late Freddie Garrett, Sr. and Nicey Cyprian Garrett. He was the first born of eleven children. Elder Lawrence Garrett, Sr. attended Folsom Rosenwald School. He was united in holy matrimony to Sis. Mary Alice Robinson Garrett on September 13, 1958, and to this union four children were born.

He joined Greater Payne Chapel AME Church at an early age. He later joined Holmesville Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was called and ordained into the ministry in 1984. Following his vision, he went on faithfully and established New Life Tabernacle Baptist Church in Folsom, LA where he currently was the Pastor. He was also the Pastor of Jerusalem Baptist Church located in Sun, LA, and Well Worshippers located in Mississippi. He was also the President of the Ministerial Alliance, and a member of the Cemetery Association.

He worked several jobs during his lifetime – Price Nursery, Prestress Concrete, Gardner, and Hill – Bedhan Lumber Company. He was also the owner of his own Pulpwood, logging, and trucking company. He was an employee with St. Tammany Parish School Board and retired.

His loving legacy will be cherished by his wife, Mary Alice Robinson Garrett; three children, daughter, Mary Ella (Elder Kenneth) Neal of Covington, LA; son, Lawrence (a special friend, Audrey Montgomery) Garrett, Jr., daughter, Pastor Vera (Deacon Ronald, Sr.) Dunnaway both reside in Folsom, LA; one God daughter, Portia Rene Lewis, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Clayton (Marie) Garrett of Roseland, LA, Elder Hubert Garrett, Sr. of Folsom, LA; four sisters, Dorothy Cousan of Uneedus, LA, Lucy (Louis) Cyprian and Oline (Leonard, Sr.) Johnson both of Folsom, LA and Doris Garrett of Hammond, LA; special aunts, Ora Burris and Mother Inez Cyprian both of Folsom, LA, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie Garrett, Sr., and Nicey Cyprian Garrett; brothers, Nelson Garrett, Orease Garrett, and Freddie Garrett, Jr.; sister, Diane Garrett, and son, Deacon Joe A. Garrett.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at New Life Tabernacle Baptist Church in Folsom, LA.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11:00AM at Holmeville Baptist Church in Folsom, LA. Interment – Folsom Community Cemetery.
