Nellie Corkern Spencer

November 23, 1926 - September 7, 2021

Nellie Corkern Spencer, age 94 and a resident of Franklinton left her Earthly home on Tuesday September 7, 2021 at 3:56 pm at Good Samaritan Living Center with her daughter and two nieces by her side. She was born in Franklinton on November 23, 1926 to Leonard Corkern and Vertilee Stringfield Corkern. Nellie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was always a caregiver and when she went into Good Samaritan, she could be seen assisting other residents to the cafeteria or wherever they needed to go. She loved helping others. Nellie spent her retirement years camping and fishing with the love of her life. They spent much time at Fairview State Park. She loved to fish for perch and if she found the right spot she could stay there all day. Nellie was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton and the VFW Women’s Auxillary.

Survived by: Daughter and Son in law: Sandra and Keith McDaniel of Franklinton; Son and Daughter in law: Alan and Mary Ann Spencer of The Woodlands, TX; 3 Granddaughters and Spouses: Traci and Allen Osborn, Jena and Chris Arnold all of Brandon, MS, Kellie and John Freels of Brookhaven, MS; 2 Grandsons: Stephen Parker of Franklinton, Thurston and Lesley Mansfield of Austin, TX; 3 Great-granddaughters: Amber Cain, Emily Cain both of Mississippi, Chelsea and Justin Dansereau of California; 4 Great-grandsons: Curtis Osborn, James Osborn, Garrett Parker all of Mississippi, Austin Cain of Utah; 2 Great-great-granddaughters: Kaileigh Dansereau and McKenzie Dansereau of California; She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews

Nellie was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years W.J. “Bill” Spencer, Jr., parents Leonard Corkern and Vertilee Stringfield Corkern, two brothers Olan Corkern and Jimmie Corkern, three sisters Olie Varnado, Jessie Phares and Blondie Holmes.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Friday September 10th from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 12:00 pm Friday with Rev. Paul Watts, Rev. Joey Miller and Rev. Percy Frazier officiating. Interment will follow in Ellis Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Allen Osborn, Chris Arnld, John Freels, Rudy Winstead, Jake Bateman, Jeff Wood

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to First Baptist Church of Franklinton (950 Self Street, Franklinton, LA 70438).
