Tropical Outlook Today

Disturbance 1. Tropical Depression Fred is currently moving west-northwest near 16 mph and located at the eastern tip of Cuba. Fred is expected  to skirt Cuba today and into Friday. By Friday evening, a more northwestward movement is expected as Fred nears southern Florida. Tropical storm conditions should begin Saturday in the Florida Keys and South Florida and spread northward along the Florida west coast and the Florida Panhandle through Monday. The system could result in direct impacts to the north Gulf coast region Sunday night or Monday morning.

Disturbance 2. A tropical wave located about 1400 miles east of the Lesser Antilles may develop into a tropical depression by early next week while the system moves generally westward at about 20 mph across the tropical Atlantic.  This system is expected to reach portions of the Leeward Islands late Saturday or early Sunday. Formation chance through 48 hours is at 30% and formation chance through 5 days is at 60%.
