Oklahoma Theft Suspect Arrested in Washington Parish

Yesterday (Monday, May 31, 2021), Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal received a telephone call from Oklahoma alerting him to a possible theft and naming a suspect who was traveling to Washington Parish. He was alerted that a large amount of cash and a designer purse were stolen while the owner was sleeping. Sheriff Seal alerted his staff who began an investigation.

Through monitoring jail telephone conversations, Washington Parish corrections deputies were able to confirm that Makayla Ramser, age 22 and a resident of North Border Drive in Bogalusa, had stolen the money and brought it to a residence in Washington Parish. This information was passed on to patrol deputies who were able to locate and arrest Ramser. She was booked into the Washington Parish Jail on charges of possession of stolen property and two outstanding warrants. Meanwhile, the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office investigative division is coordinating efforts with the Norman, Oklahoma, Police Department. Theft charges would have to be lodged there since that is where the crime took place.

The theft occurred in Norman, Oklahoma. The victim had secured $6,500 in cash to  purchase a used vehicle and stored the cash in a designer purse. $6,429 was recovered by Washington Parish deputies.

“Steal in Oklahoma and get arrested in Washington Parish. That sort of thing happens when law enforcement officials coordinate across state lines,” stated Sheriff Randy Seal. “The combined efforts of our corrections deputies, our patrol deputies and our detectives resulted in a quick arrest.”
