James Milton Penton

September 26, 1931 - April 1, 2021

James Milton Penton, age 89 and a resident of Franklinton, died early Thursday morning April 1, 2021 at his home surrounded by his beloved family. Milton was a member of San Pedro Missionary Baptist Church for over 20 years and prior to that was a member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church. He was an ordained minister that served for many years in churches throughout the area. He truly loved the Lord and his church families. Milton worked alongside his family in yard maintenance and landscaping for many years. In earlier years, he worked in maintenance at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds and at the Franklinton Stockyards. Milton enjoyed cutting firewood, hunting and especially fishing. He liked to visit and tell stories with his family and friends and he adored all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Hermon, Jacob and Cassidy Penton of Franklinton; 5 Daughters and Sons in law: Katherine and Chris Temples of Mt. Hermon, Karen and Chris Roberts, Tina Penton, Tammy and Eric Ingram, Debra Dykes all of Franklinton; Grandchildren and Spouses: Matthew and Laynea Temples, Hannah and Jayden Slaven, Andrew Temples, Zachery Phelps, Nicholas Phelps, Zoey Phelps, Bryson Roberts, Savannah Knight, Bailey Knight, Gabrielle Penton, Rebecca Ingram, Taylor Templet, Zoie Templet, Camryn Templet, Patrick and Tammy Dykes, Richard Dykes, Wanda and Jody Guylette, Sheila and Cliff Durden, Craig and Dawn Penton, Jeremy Penton, Kerry Penton, Rhonda Penton; Sister and Brother in law: Ernestine and Louis “Jaguar” Lawson of Franklinton; Also numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by sons David Penton, Jerry Penton, parents James Erwin Penton and Josephine Stogner Penton and several siblings, sons in law Wayne Phelps, Johnny Dykes, grandson Devon Penton, granddaughter Sherry Penton, father in law and mother in law Robert and Nathalee Strickland.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Friday April 2nd from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and after 10:00 am on Saturday. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Saturday with Bro. Jessie Johnson, Bro. Burdette Thomas, Bro. James McCraney, and Bro. Gary Sumrall officiating. Burial will follow in the Springhill-Magee Cemetery.
