Alice Nell Rushing

February 06, 1935 - March 17, 2021

Alice Nell Rushing, a longtime resident of Bogalusa, has gone to her heavenly home. Alice was born on February 6, 1935 in Long Beach, Mississippi. She later moved to Bogalusa and graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1953. Soon after she met the love of her life, Neil Rushing. After courting, they were married August 12, 1955. Alice and Neil bought land in the Forrest Hills area and built a house in 1959. They were married for 63 years. Alice and Neil were blessed with two sons, two granddaughters, a great-grandson, and a great- granddaughter. She worked at CIT and later at the Bogalusa Branch Library. Alice was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church and then Memorial Baptist Church after they were incorporated together. She taught Sunday School class for many years, and her faith in Jesus Christ was evident throughout her life. She was selfless and enjoyed helping other people

Alice enjoyed visiting and spending time with family. She loved gardening and took pride in her yard. She was a member of the Northeast Garden Club and a Master Gardener, Alice’s talents included sewing, quilting and cooking.

Alice passed away peacefully at her home on March 17, 2021.

Alice is survived by her two sons, Bruce Rushing of Bogalusa, Reid (Dawn) Rushing; two granddaughters, Mandy (Kevin) Gregory of Hattiesburg, MS, and Natalie (Garrett) Stringer of Hattiesburg; one great-grandson, Deacon Gregory; one great-granddaughter, Maren Gregory; one sister, Laura Cain and one brother, Tommy Roberts.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Neil Rushing; her parents, Wiley and Ludie Mae Wascom;her brother, James “Jimmy” Roberts and John Roberts; and her sisters, Frances Gill, Mildren Krohn, Edna Mae Krohn, Anna Woodcock, and Sarah Barnes.

Alice was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and she will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 P.M. Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 P.M. Services will be performed by Larry Lassley. Interment will follow at Garden of Peace in Ponemah Cemetery.
