Obituary

Lovester McCant

November 14, 1954 - December 27, 2020

Lovester McCant, age 74 and son of the late Lovie Dee and Josephine Moore McCant, was born November 14, 1946 in Washington Parish. He departed this life on December 27, 2020 at Riverside Medical Center in Franklinton, Louisiana.

Lovester grew up in Franklinton and graduated from Washington Parish Training High School in 1964. He was a proud first chair trumpeter in the School’s Tiger Marching Band. Lovester grew up attending Winan United Methodist Church under the leadership of Rev. L. A. Lester.

After high school, Lovester’s interest in mechanics led him to work at a local black owned mechanic and salvage shop owned by Marshal Graves.

Lovester moved to Detroit, Michigan where he found employment with General Motors. As his life would transpire, Lovester returned to Franklinton around 1971. Through the years his caring heart allowed him to be a helpful driver for two of his elderly aunts. He would also take his father to doctor’s appointments at the Veterans’ Hospital in New Orleans, LA. Those who truly knew Lovester would agree that his journey to independent living proved his faith and determination. His faithful saying when conversation got serious was, “You can’t beat God.”

Lovester was the father of two children, Barbara Conerly and Demille (Donald Wayne) Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lovie Dee and Josephine McCant; a brother, Hollis McCullen, Jr.; son, Demille Williams.

Lovester leaves to cherish his memories, siblings, Ella Rose (Jerry) Bickham of Franklinton, LA; Alvin (Gaynell) McCant of Angie, LA; James (Mary) McCullen of Franklinton, LA; his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
