Billy Joe "Bill" Dillon

August 5, 1940 - December 14, 2020

Billy Joe (Bill) Dillon, beloved husband and “Pops,” retired school bus driver, long-time grocery store owner, cattle farmer, tractor mechanic, and 58 years as a trustee on the board of the First United Pentecostal Church of Franklinton, passed away on December 14, 2020, at the age of 80. Bill was born August, 5 1940. He drove a bus for the Franklinton Schools for many years as well as owning and operating Dillon’s Store in the Springhill Community, near his home. Bill raised beef cows and worked in Sales and Mechanics for former tractor businesses in and around Franklinton.

Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bobbie Rockco Dillon; his son Billy Joe Dillon II and wife Paula Newman Dillon of Walker; daughter Valarie Voncyle Dufrene and husband Robert Dufrene of Holden; Grandchildren Robert Benjamin Dillon and Kristi of Albany, Jessica Dillon Methvien and Chuck of Holden, Devin Tyler Dufrene of Brooklyn, New York, and Macy Nicole Dufrene of Holden; Great grandchildren Kaleb Joseph Dillon and Anthony James Dillon of Albany and Kynsea Noel Methvien of Holden. He is also survived by his sisters and a brother in law Betty Sue Watson, Willie Nell McKenzie, and Juretta and Allan Boyd. He also leaves behind a host of brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and his beloved church family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Carl Dillon & Lucy Hill Dillon, his brother James Larry Dillon and grandson Austin Dean Dufrene. He is also preceded in death by his father figure (father-in-law) Rev. J. B. Rockco.

Visitation will be Saturday December 19th from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the First United Pentecostal Church of Franklinton (1214 17th Ave., Franklinton). Visitation will continue at the church on Sunday from 10:00 am until the memorial service at 2:00 pm with Rev. John Mark Franklin, Rev. Billy Johnson and Rev. David L. Black officiating, with a family eulogy by Robert Dufrene. Burial will follow in the Tyson Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Hill officiating.

Pallbearers include Robert Dillon, Chuck Methvien, Devin Dufrene, Macy Dufrene, Steve Rockco, Terry Boyd, Raymond Myers III, and Coy Randol.

Honorary pallbearers are Alton Carter, Doc Dyson, John Rockco, Willie Rockco, Allan Boyd, Adam Franklin, Kristi Dillon, and Jessica Methvien.
