Road Improvements Highlighted at Council Meeting

Following a Public Hearing on an ordinance to adopt the 2020 Annual Operating and Capital Outlay Budgets, the Washington Parish Council took up a full agenda of items during their regular Council meeting Monday evening (December 2, 2019).

Included in the President's Report were reports by Finance Director Donna Graham, Public Works Director Ken Wheat, and Transportation Manager Donnell Merritt. Merritt reported on major road improvements at the Bogue Chitto State Park and elsewhere in the parish. Parish President Thomas pointed out that work at the Park is of benefit to the parish by improving tourism and is being done pursuant to an Intergovernmental Agreement with the State. Work performed under these Intergovernmental Agreements involves use of parish resources, with the State and other agencies paying for materials.

The Council
  • voted to approve the 2020 Annual Operating and Capital Outlay Budgets
  • introduced four ordinances that will be voted on at the December 16, 2019 meeting after Public Hearings on them. • acted on five resolutions. The Council 1) approved one to request an attorney general opinion concerning requests for proposals and bids in reference to the Home Rule Charter of Washington Parish, solid waste disposal contracts and other matters, 2) tabled one to adopt the 2020 annual operating budget and adopt the amended 2019 annual operating budget of the Washington Parish Tourism Commission, 3) approved two related to the engagement of Kushner Lagraize, LLC to perform audit services, and 4) approved one concerning salaries and other matters for Justices of the Peace and Constables.
