Political Advocates Knocking on Your Door?

In a letter to the citizens of Washington and St. Tammany Parishes dated October 1, 2018, District Attorney Warren Montgomery advises that it is not a crime for political advocates to knock on your door. The text of the letter is as follows:

"The political season is upon us. For that reason, there are political advocates knocking on doors. Some residents do not like the fact that political advocates are knocking on their doors. Some of them will call the police to complain. I write this letter to remind everyone that this sort of political advocacy does not constitute criminal trespass unless the political advocates are 'specifically forbidden to do so by the owner or other person with authority either orally or in writing.' See La. R.S. 14:63(F), particularly (F)(3) & (F)(7).

I ask everyone to be courteous, respectful, and considerate. Please contact me if you have any questions whatsoever."
