Some Great News for Washington Parish!

Washington Parish Government finances are in great shape. An audit report for 2017 was presented at the meeting of the Washington Parish Council Monday evening (June 25, 2018) by Wilson LaGraize. The report reflected a net gain in parish assets of $3,477,000, fund balances have increased by $475,000 and Washington Parish is debt-free. In addition, the audit resulted in an unqualified opinion which means it is a "clean" opinion with no deficiencies found in compliance or in internal controls. (Video of his report begins at 1:45 into the video of the meeting)
In other business, the Council

  • heard a presentation from Access Health Louisiana, located in Bogalusa, who offers many health-related services to Washington Parish
  • adopted three ordinances: one to accept Pine Cone Lane as a Washington Parish road, one to move the polling place in Ward 2 from the Mt. Hermon old library building to the Ruritan Club, and one to move the polling place in Ward 9, Precinct 1 to the new location of Washington Parish Fire District #2003
  • heard a report from Parish President Richard Thomas (beginning at 21:35 into video of the meeting). Finance Director Donna Graham recognized the contributions of staff members to having a good audit of the parish's finances, Public Works Director Ken Wheat reported on progress being made on road improvement projects and on the animal shelter project, and President Thomas addressed the Council.

Council members joined LaGraize in complimenting President Thomas and staff for managing the finances of the parish in such as way to achieve such a good audit report.
