Bogalusa: No Charges Against Truck Driver in Bike Crash

On Tuesday, (February 13, 2018) the Bogalusa Police Department received a call from the emergency room staff at Our Lady Of Angels Medical Center about a four year-old child being treated for injuries after being struck by an 18-wheeler while riding his bicycle. The child was airlifted to North Oaks Hospital in Hammond where he underwent surgery to repair a broken femur.
Officers learned that an 18-wheeler log truck, traveling south in the 500 block of Avenue D, made a left turn onto W. 6th Street and struck the child with his empty trailer.  The driver was identified and, on Monday (February 19, 2018) came to the BPD Detective Division for questioning.
Detectives concluded the child was riding his bicycle and ran into the truck or trailer as it made the turn onto W. 6th Street and found no evidence to suggest negligence or criminal behavior on the part of the driver.
