On January 19, 2018, a two vehicle crash killed Rebecca Smith (63) and Jimmie Lott (38), both from Braxton, MS.. The crash on Hwy. 98 East involved a pickup driven by Smith, with Lott being a passenger, and a truck owned by Herring Gas and driven by Bryan Ryals (35) from Tylertown and Payne Ryals (11) as a passenger.
Rebecca Smith and Jimmie Lott were pronounced dead on scene. Bryan and Payne Ryals had no injuries from the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
