Slidell Shooting Has Resulted in Manslaughter Indictment

A St. Tammany Parish grand jury indicted Frank William Beckendorf, III (20) of Slidell  Thursday (January 11, 2017) of manslaughter in the shooting death of Brett O. McCraney of Slidell on September 24, 2017.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office had responded to a report of shots in the parking lot at 4854 Pontchartrain Drive in Slidell and discovered McCraney with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to Slidell Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Frank William Beckendorf (20) of Slidell was identified by witnesses as the shooter and was still at the scene when STPSO deputies arrived. A verbal altercation between the victim and the suspect reportedly led to the shooting.
McCraney and Adonis Young (26) of New Orleans had been charged with Disturbing the Peace and Second Degree Battery on July 6, 2017 in the beating of an elderly man (73) in what was reported as a road rage incident. At the time McCraney reportedly told officers he “felt like he had to defend his territory” and “show him what was up” and reportedly began to beat the elderly man.
