Obituary

Dorris Brown McGehee
March 11, 1929 - January 28, 2018

Dorris Brown McGehee, daughter of Clyde and Ila Venable Brown, passed away peacefully at her residence on January 28, 2018.
Dorris was born in Monroe, Louisiana and grew up in the Pleasant Hill area of Bogalusa spending many hours enjoying the facilities and services available at the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA).  As an adult, she eagerly supported the YWCA with both her time and finances.
Dorris was educated by the Bogalusa and LSU educational systems.  She was a former Paper Queen and until her health deteriorated, was involved in community service and was an active parishioner of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church from where she drew tremendous faith from the church and its members.
Clyde and Ila Brown formed Dixie Life Insurance and Brown Funeral Homes which Ila continued to manage after Clyde’s death.  Following Ila’s retirement, Dorris and her husband William M. McGehee, operated Brown-McGehee Funeral Home until William’s (Big Bill) death in 1992.
Dorris is preceded in death by her parents, her husband William M. McGehee and son Michael William McGehee.
Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church beginning Friday, February 2nd at 10:00 A.M. and continue until the funeral service at 11:00 A.M.  A private graveside will be held at Hillview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Following the service, friends and relatives are invited to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church fellowship hall.
She is survived by sons Bill (Sondra), Bruce (Debbie), Les (Dewi) and daughter Kathy McGehee Seal (Wendall), 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church are appreciated.
