Washington Parish Reservoir: It Would Take a Miracle!

In an over 2-hour meeting Tuesday evening (November 14, 2017), The Washington Parish Reservoir Commission tried to re-group and find a path forward to build a reservoir in the parish. Obstacles in that path include the inability to obtain property by eminent domain, inadequate funding to pay for engineers and lawyers and consultants, and community opposition to the current “footprint” (proposed Oak Grove location).
Commission President William A. Jenkins made a valiant and organized attempt to bring some clarity on how the commission should proceed to accomplish the purposes for which it was established.
Discussions primarily focused on alternate site locations, the need to stop spending the limited funds (approximately $800,000) remaining, and the (already settled) eminent domain issue.
Senator Beth Mizell, Representative Malinda White, and Parish Councilman Phillipp Bedwell, as well as numerous other parish residents, provided input.
