The Washington Parish School Board's proposed tax was presented to voters April 29, 2017 and they said “No” by a margin of 67% to 33%. The tax was presented as a property tax millage to build a new Franklinton Jr. High School, build three classrooms and a multipurpose room at Pine, and Renovate the cafeteria and four classrooms at Thomas. Voters turned down the proposal that, if approved, would have resulted in an increase from the current 16 mils to 29 mils and an incurring of $28 million in debt.
Unofficial turnout is reported to be 21.1%.
