Ora Ellen Varnado James
October 26, 1916 - April 11, 2017
ELLEN VARNADO JAMES, AGE 100 and a resident of Franklinton, LA passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 surrounded by family members. She was born on October 26, 1916; the firstborn child of Henry Newton Varnado and Ora Ellen McCain Varnado. She married Clyde Walter James of the Hayes Creek Community on February 10, 1951. They moved to Covington, LA where they raised their family. In the 1960’s they moved back to Franklinton, LA.
Ellen was a member of Franklinton First Baptist Church and the A.W. Robbins Sunday School class. For many years she was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 113 and NARFE. She loved to read, sew and cook. She and Clyde enjoyed the many camping trips they made with brother and sister in law, LeRoy and Cathy James. She loved her family and the time she spent with them – the visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her favorite.
Survived by: Daughter and Son in law: Joni James Brindle and Steven Brindle of Franklinton; Son and Daughter in law: Randy C. and Diane James of Franklinton; Those that made her Grand and their spouses: Clay and Lisa James of Ponchatoula, Craig and Kandi James of Sandy Hook, Cori and Chris Clemmer of Orefield, PA, Ross and Heather Brindle of Broken Arrow, OK, Molli and Kevin Bond of Franklinton; Those that made her Great: Marlee James and Mila James, Olivia James, Mason Clemmer, Danica Clemmer and Colton Clemmer, Vivian Brindle, Emma Hill; Sister: Margaret Varnado Fussell of Franklinton; Brother in law and Sister in law: Roy and Kathy James of Covington; Also numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years Clyde Walter James, her parents Henry Newton Varnado and Ora Ellen McCain Varnado, brother and sister in law Ray and Sally Varnado, brothers in law and sisters in law Harold Fussell, Alton and Irma James, Geneva and Pat Edwards and Malcolm and Rosetta James.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Friday April 14th from 12 pm until 2 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paul Watts and Rev. Dale Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Hayes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to her caregivers Ethel Williams, Edith Smith, Shemeka Dillon and Sheila Seal for their loving support through the years.
