
Lt. John Riles, a native of Mount Hermon, has been named commander of Louisiana State Police Troop L that is based in Mandeville and covers St. Tammany, Washington, Tangipahoa, and St. Helena parishes.
Riles obtained a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Southeastern Louisiana University and a master's in public administration from Louisiana State University. He is also a graduate of Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command. Riles began his career with State Police in 1990, and was assigned to Troop L after graduating from the Louisiana State Police Academy. He rose through the ranks at Troop L and was selected to serve as the interim commander of Troop N, the New Orleans detail, before returning to his role as Troop L executive officer prior to his promotion.
