Obituary

J. Leroy Toney
August 17, 1936 - March 23, 2017



J. LEROY TONEY, AGE 80 and a resident of Franklinton died at 6:30 pm Thursday March 23, 2017 at Riverside Medical Center. He was a graduate of Covington High School before becoming a United States Army veteran of the Korean War Era. Leroy then joined the FBI where he served in the fingerprint division. He then attended Southeastern Louisiana University to obtain an Education degree. Leroy taught Elementary School math, science and social studies for 20 years for the Washington Parish School Board and even volunteered with the schools long after retiring. He was a longtime member and Deacon of Trinity Baptist Church, where he was also music director and piano player and a Sunday school teacher. Leroy, alongside his wife, was also the owner/operator of S & L Shoe Repair for many years. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family.
Survived by: Daughter and Son in law: Angela and Chris Helton of Franklinton; 3 Grandchildren: Tanner Rochester, Christen Helton, Wyatt Helton; 4 Sisters and Brothers in law: Joanne Niquiporo of Hammond, Carolyn Magee of Pine, Karen and Hollis Thompson, Sr. of Folsom, Debbie and Lloyd Hackney of Covington; 2 Step-Sisters and a Step-Brother in law: Dorothy and Willie J. O’Bryant, JoAnne Mixon; Step-Brother and Step-Sister in law: J.D. and Katherine Broadway; Brother in law and Sister in law: Bob and Cathy Walters; Also numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Walters Toney, his parents Herman Toney and Lillie Folks Toney, step-mother Myrtis Seals Toney, sister in law Murleen Welch, brothers in law Joe Niquiporo, Russell Magee, Dolan Walters and step-brother in law Robert Mixon.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Sunday March 26th from 5 pm until 9 pm and after 9am on Monday. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Stan Statham and Rev. Clay Spinks officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the San Pedro Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
