Motorist Killed in Crash with Bulldozer on I-55 Near Amite

Friday (February 24, 2017) evening, Louisiana State Troopers responded to a crash on I-55 near Amite that claimed the life of Deanna Lawson (55) of Denham Springs.
Troopers believe that James Lockhart (48) of Galliano was attempting to relocate a Cat DC5K Bulldozer from the center median to a “lowboy” semi-trailer, which was parked on the right northbound shoulder of I-55.  As Lockhart entered the right northbound lane, his Bulldozer was hit on the right side by a 2007 Saturn Ion driven by Lawson. The Saturn Ion sustained total damage to its front end. Despite being properly restrained, Lawson suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
At the time of the crash, the location was not an active construction site and there were no warning signs for oncoming traffic. Lockhart was cited for Careless Operation. The investigation is ongoing and any additional finding will be forwarded to the Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney’s Office.
