Early Sunday (January 1, 2017), Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two-vehicle wrong direction fatal crash on I-55 in Hammond that claimed the life of Christian Delgado (23) of Hammond.
Troopers determined Delgado was driving southbound in the northbound lane of I-55 and crashed head-on into a northbound 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Kenneth Mebane (46) of Greensboro NC. Delgado was pronounced deceased on-scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. Mebane was not injured. Presently, impairment is suspected to have been a contributing factor in this crash.
