The armed robbery suspect accused of exchanging gunfire with Slidell police has been  released from a hospital and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail, authorities said today (January 18). Michael Donato, 26, of Slidell, who was wounded in the shootout, was released by a New Orleans hospital Tuesday night and booked on the North Shore with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, armed robbery, attempted second-degree murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a gun, said Trooper Dustin Dwight of Louisiana State Police.
Police said Donato tried to rob the Mr. Joe Chinese restaurant in a commercial strip at Gause Boulevard at Rue Rochelle on Friday at about 7:30 p.m. When police arrived, officers and the suspect fired at each other before Donato was apprehended, authorities said. Bullets shattered the windows of several businesses at the commercial centers.
