Hurricane Laura barreled across the Gulf of Mexico and took direct aim at the Louisiana-Texas coast before moving inland. The Category 4 storm unleashed 150 mph winds, rain and catastrophic storm surges, causing widespread destruction and leaving more than 750,000 people without power. It will be days before people will be able to fully assess the devastation to their homes and communities.
Recognizing the challenges so many will face in the coming weeks and months — especially vulnerable older adults who have been affected — AARP Foundation has created a relief fund to support the victims of Hurricane Laura. To meet their needs, AARP Foundation will match — dollar for dollar — contributions up to a total of $500,000.
