Lucille Moses Nichols
March 22, 1936 - July 24, 2020



An angel of the Lord silently touched down to earth on Friday, July 24, 2020, and knocked on the heart of a loving and faithful servant of God to take away all her earthly ailments, her earthly worries and her earthly pains and made whole the heavenly body through servitude and faith of Lucille Moses Nichols.

Lucille Moses Nichols was born to the parentage of William W. Moses and Savannah Peters Moses on March 22, 1936.  She was the second child born of three to her parents.  Lucille was a life-long resident of the Varnado community.  She attended Wesley Ray School.  And completed high school in the latter seventies, because of her determination, girth and love for education.

She found the love of her life at a very young age, and on August 16, 1952, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Llewellyn Nichols.  To this union, they were blessed with eight children—six daughters and two sons.

Lucille grew up in the Mary’s Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was baptized under the leadership of Rev. E. L. Jackson.  Upon her marriage, she united with her husband’s home church, Live Oak United Methodist Church.  At Live Oak, Lucille was an avid communion steward and a member of the United Methodist Women.  Later in life, her church membership led her to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Varnado, LA, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Alfonso S. Nelson.  Until her health began to fail, she was a faithful communion steward, a member of the mission, and a faithful face each week at Sunday School, Sunday Services, and Bible Study.

Her memories will be remembered and cherished forever by:  her eight children, Shirley (Rev. Leonard) Craft of Pearl River, LA, Rev. Anice (Rodney) Moses of Varnado, LA, Janice Morris of Houston, TX, Mary Walls of Varnado, LA, Llewellyn J. (Desiree) Nichols of Slidell, LA, Ron P. Nichols, Sr. of Varnado, LA, Anna (Tarrance) Moses of Varnado, LA, and Romona (Jimmy) Thomas of Iowa, LA; four grandchildren she reared, Keavina Robinson, Nakia Nichols Bryant, Gurnez Nichols, and Enshandra Nichols; four sisters, Minister Ella M. (William T.) Foster, Glen O. Jefferson, Mary L. May, and Mary L. Keaton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Richard Foster, Ollie Harry, Katherine (Levi, Sr.) Lewis, Joseph “J.C.” Nichols, Willie (Beverly) Nichols, Larry (Charlene) Nichols, Bernard Nichols, Lionel (Rosie) Foster, and Ossilean Moses; 30 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Preceeding Lucille in death were:  her parents, William W. Moses, Savannah P. Hatcher; her step-father, Johnny “Jack” Hatcher; sisters, Margie L. Johnson, Faye D. Parnell; brothers, Oscar L. Moses, Booker T. Hatcher, Clemeal Hatcher, and Freddy Moses; a great-grandchild, Zyndia Walls; a great-great-grandchild, Hayden Nichols Jones; and sister and brother-in-law, Faye Doris and Doc Viverette.
