Obituary

Lyndia B. Ross
February 28, 1944 - June 15, 2019



“For we know if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, and a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”           2 Corinthians 5:1

Lyndia Nell was born February 28, 1944 in Wilmer, Louisiana to the late Arthur and Harriet Brumfield Dyson who preceded her in death. She was the baby of twelve children of whom ten preceded her in death:  Johnny Dyson, Alphonse Dyson, Wilford Dyson, Lenzie Dyson, Vermie Ross, Juanita Spurlock, Hubert Dyson, Arthur Dyson, Jr., Wessie Johnson, and Ola Mae Dyson. One sibling remains:  Wilton Dyson (Mae Francis) of Mt. Hermon, Louisiana.

At a young age, she joined Silver Creek AME Church where she was baptized. However, in 1969 she moved to New Orleans but returned to this area in 1974. During her tenure at Union Chapel she served in the following capacities:  secretary for the Mission Society, 28 years as president of the Senior Choir, (she would always say “I don’t want to lead a song if it doesn’t mean anything to me”), she also sang in the 100 Women Community Choir. She was class leader for class #11, a stewardess, pro temp steward, a member of the Pastor’s Aid, Daughters of Sarah, and Cemetery Supervisor. She was also a faithful member of the Sunflower Chapter #44 Order of the Eastern Star of Franklin, Louisiana.

She did domestic work, private sitting, and drove transportation for several years. She also worked at the International Airport and Hotel Dieu in New Orleans, La., she worked at the Cottage in Franklinton, Sun Creek Rehabilitation Center in Folsom, Louisiana; LSU Ag Center and Risk Care.

Her favorite things to do included singing, watching TV shows, and shopping.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Louis Bannister and to this union no children were born. On August 28, 1991 she married Henry Ross who preceded her in death. To this union no children were born.

Cherishing her memories are:  one son Unandus Dyson (Joyce), Mt. Hermon, La.; one brother Wilton Dyson (Mae Francis) Mt. Hermon, La.; two sister’s-in-law Shirlean and Doris Dyson, 4 god- children; Darlene Glover, Nancy Garner, Christina Briggs, and La’Keitha McElveen;  9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in Christ and those whose lives she touched.

One son Raymond Dyson preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held on Friday,  June 21, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Washington Street, Franklinton, LA.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 10:30 am.  at Union Chapel AME Church, 23011 Silver Creek Road, Kentwood, LA. with Reverend Donnice Thomas, Officiating.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Franklinton, LA are in charge of arrangements.
