Tangipahoa Parish to Participate in Operation Angel

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards has announced that Tangipahoa Parish will begin
participating in the progressive drug program Operation Angel. More information will be provided at a news conference on Tuesday, February 5th at 10:00 am.

Through Operation Angel, individuals suffering from drug abuse can go to any substation or police department in Tangipahoa Parish and ask for professional help without fear of being arrested. They can turn in any drugs or drug paraphernalia without being charged, and receive free transportation to a treatment facility where they can start their new life. If the program follows protocols established in neighboring jurisdictions, the person in need of help will be brought to a Lacombe ranch that is operated by the New Orleans Mission and provided round-the-clock treatment.

The program was first introduced in Louisiana by the Covington Police Department and subsequently joined by agencies in Washington Parish. Operation Angel has also received the support of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, Warren Montgomery of the 22nd Judicial District, State Senator Beth Mizell, and  members of the faith-based community.
