WPSO Looking for Shoplifter and Accomplice

The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office seeks the public’s assistance in identifying two people wanted for questioning regarding a shoplifting incident at the Dollar General on Highway 21.

An investigation determined that a black male entered the store and took several items and left the store without paying. The clerk pursued the individual into the parking lot where he left in a black ford suv driven by a black female.
“Help us bring justice to these two individuals. I urge anyone with information about the suspects' identities to call the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-839-3434.” said Sheriff Randy “Country” Seal.

**UPDATE** Stolen Tricycle Recovered

Shortly after 11:00 a.m. this morning (July 17, 2018), an anonymous citizen dropped off the stolen tricycle that belonged to 12 year-old girl with special needs to the Slidell Police Department.  (Read the original story here) The citizen, who was in no way involved with the theft, was able to convince the thief to surrender the bike. The investigation is still on-going.

The license plate and flag are still missing, but Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal is committed to replacing the stolen items. Chief Fandal says, “We are extremely happy to have the bike returned. Everything else is secondary at this point, but we will still be pushing forward with this investigation.”

Yesterday, hundreds of people and businesses from all over the New Orleans Metro area were willing to donate money to replace the stolen bike.

Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest in Shoplifting Case

Proactive policing and an alert deputy resulted in the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office clearing
two shoplifting cases last week.
A driver, stopped for speeding on I-12 on July 10, 2018, provided a fake name. However, the driver was ultimately identified as Shabrelle Deanne Gay (28) of Oklahoma City. Gay was jailed on the charges of Driving Under Suspension, Resisting Arrest, and Speeding. But things did not end there for Gay.
The deputy observed several items of children’s clothing, all new and with price tags, inside Gay’s vehicle. An investigation identified Gay as a suspect in a shoplifting case in which a female had entered a Covington-area business on July 9, 2018 and fled with several hundred dollars’ worth of children’s clothing. Gay was connected to the incident after reviewing surveillance video. She was also linked to a second shoplifting case that occurred at a nearby store on the same day.
Gay was re-booked on two counts of Theft of Goods $500-$1,500.

Child with Special Needs has Custom Tricycle Stolen

Slidell Police are asking the public for help in locating a custom tricycle, which was stolen from a 12-year-old girl with special needs. The Amtryke (brand) tricycle, which was built specifically to the 12-year-old girl’s body dimensions, was red in color and had a small license plate with the name “Adara” adhered to the back of it. The value of the tricycle is estimated to be over $2,000.

Early Sunday morning (July 16), the victim’s father was preparing to take his family camping when he discovered someone had stolen his daughter’s custom tricycle from a storage unit, located at 1373 West Lindberg Drive. The tricycle was secured to the back of a trailer, and covered with a grey and silver tarp, which was also stolen.

Slidell Police are asking anyone with information to call 985-646-6181, or contact Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111. You can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.

No Injuries in Magnolia's Amtrak Crash

Source: Stetson Payne and Matt Williamson |http://www.enterprise-journal.com
No one was injured after a southbound Amtrak train, with 204 passengers and 5 crew members, struck a pickup truck and camper trailer Sunday afternoon (July 15, 2018) in Magnolia.

A Ford F-150 pulling a camper westbound entered the Bay Street railroad crossing at 12:52 p.m. when the crossing gates lowered, catching the pickup on the tracks. The driver, the truck’s only occupant, jumped out and ran to the Handy Hardware store as the train hit. The impact tossed the truck’s battery and front bumper down the tracks and threw the truck into a track-side propane tank.
The crash damaged one propane line and caused a significant leak, but the gas did not ignite before a valve was closed. Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said the propane tanks belong to CN Railroad, which owns the tracks, and they are usually empty during the summer.

The Magnolia and McComb fire departments responded to the accident. A transportation safety board reconstruction team will visit the site Monday.

St. Tammany Meth Investigation Results in 29 Arrests

Since March 2018, the St. Tammany Parish Narcotics Task Force, along with the assistance of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Patrol Division, has conducted multiple narcotics related investigations in and around the areas of Pearl River, Hickory and Talisheek.
The STPSO Narcotics Task Force, which is composed of detectives from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, Mandeville Police Department and Slidell Police Department, strategically collaborated with multiple sources of information, conducted countless hours of surveillance and interviewed numerous subjects to target the illegal use and distribution of methamphetamine.
These investigations revealed that the methamphetamine seized was not manufactured in St. Tammany Parish, but rather it is being brought in from foreign countries in large quantities.
“The St. Tammany Parish Narcotics Task Force has received positive feedback from the residents of these local communities,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “Methamphetamine is a dangerous and addictive drug that destroys lives and families” he added.
So far, the investigations have netted 29 arrests, many of which included narcotics or weapons offenses.
