Slidell PD Officers Intervene in Suicide Attempt

While patrolling last night, two Slidell Police officers observed a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot. Upon further investigation, the officers observed a hose running from the exhaust pipe to the inside of the vehicle. The officers immediately recognized this to be a suicide attempt. The officers were able to successfully talk to the person inside of the vehicle, stopped the suicide attempt, and were able to get this person the help they needed. There is no doubt that the officer’s actions saved this person’s life.
Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal wants to take this opportunity to remind people that there is help readily available in St. Tammany Parish. The S.T.O.P.S. program’s mission (St. Tammany Outreach for the Prevention of Suicide) is to reduce the incidence of suicide and its devastating aftermath in our community. By fostering prevention, intervention, and postvention resources, they seek to create a community safety net for individuals and families in crisis. If you, or someone you know, are feeling depressed (or are exhibiting signs of suicide), please call 211 or 1-800-273-TALK
