“Bad Water” Issues and More at Franklinton Aldermen Meeting
The Franklinton Board of Aldermen meeting Tuesday evening (March 13, 2018) saw the Mayor and Aldermen divided on two items of new business.
The first was the introduction of an ordinance amending the Town's current ordinance dealing with alcoholic beverages. Mayor Dillon prevailed in delaying the introduction of the ordinance, even though two Aldermen pointed out that the item was an introduction only (discussion and vote occurring at the next scheduled meeting). His reasons for the delay was the importance of the issues, the need for more time to review the proposed ordinance, and the need for all of the aldermen to be able to provide input and to vote. (Alderman Heath Spears was absent)
The second new business item on the agenda was a resolution authorizing Mayor Richard Dillon to sign a servitude agreement with Mile Branch Investments, Inc. to provide water and sewage service. Over the objections of Mayor Dillon, the Aldermen prevailed in tabling consideration of the resolution, citing the need for time to review the proposal.
Resident Johnny Green addressed the Board with questions regarding water quality. He, and apparently others, have experienced discolored water and described how “you can't see your feet in the bathtub”. A discussion was held regarding the cause and possible solutions.
Also on March 13, WWLTV's Ashley Rodrigue reported on similar issues in Tangipahoa and St. Tammany parishes. Read about it by clicking here.

Bogalusan Accused of Theft from an Incapacitated Woman
The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Cynthia Watson (43) of Bogalusa on March 12, 2018 on the charges of simple robbery, theft and three counts of unauthorized use of a debit card.On March 4, 2018, when a driver with a medical condition stopped at a business on Highway 21 near Bogalusa, surveillance video from the business reportedly showed Watson stop her vehicle. But instead of checking on the driver, Watson took the victim's cash and debit cards from her purse and looked inside the trunk of the victim’s vehicle.
Watson then allegedly went to Wal Mart in Covington and made purchases with the stolen debit cards. She returned to Bogalusa, went to the local Wal Mart, and returned the purchases to obtain a refund.
The crime was investigated by Detective Demmie Rice. Sheriff Randy Seal commented. “Great job, Detective Rice. Watson’s selfishness landed her in jail and now she must deal with the judicial system. It is so gratifying to me as your Sheriff to see positive results from the hard work done by our officers.”
Sheriff Seal Encourages Citizens “Do Not Litter”
Washington Parish is a beautiful area with abundant farmlands, forest lands, streams and other resources. What a pleasure it is to drive throughout our parish and view all that we have been given. I am concerned, though, when I drive through areas where the roadsides are cluttered with unsightly litter. This is not an expression of who or what we are as a parish.
Soon I will be placing signs at strategic locations where roadside litter is evident. Please read these signs carefully and let them serve as a reminder not to litter. If you have items in your vehicle that you want to discard, please hold on to them until you are home or in another location where there is a litter disposal container. Litter control begins with each of us.
