“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” John 1:12

On Sunday, October 18, 2026, God sent His beloved angel to bring one of His own home to eternal rest—William Alfonso “BaBa” Nelson.

William Nelson was born on June 13, 1966, to the late William “Bubba” Nelson and the late Emma Jean Peters. He was a longtime resident of Angie, Louisiana, particularly the Peters Hill community, before relocating to Bogalusa, Louisiana, to be closer to his beloved grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy.

William lived a life grounded in faith, following in the footsteps of his grandmother, Mary Jones. He was a faithful member of Mary’s Chapel United Methodist Church, where his devotion and presence touched the lives of many. He actively participated in the Junior Choir and Sunday School, demonstrating his commitment to his faith and church family.

A proud 1985 graduate of Varnado High School, William distinguished himself as a talented basketball player and band member. After leaving Southern University, William enlisted in the United States Army Reserve. He later worked as a galley hand for Universal Offshore Inc. until his health began to decline.

If you were to ask anyone who knew William to describe his greatest quality, the answer would undoubtedly be his generous and giving heart. He lived life with a carefree spirit and a deep passion for love, laughter, and bringing joy to others. William never met a stranger. His warm personality, quick wit, and unforgettable sense of humor made it easy for people to love him. He had a special way of brightening any room he entered and leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His laughter, kindness, and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
