Disturbance 1. Far Eastern Tropical Atlantic (AL90): A broad area of low pressure is located a few hundred miles south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands. This system could become a short-lived tropical depression or a tropical storm later today or on Friday while it moves northwestward to northward. Increasing upper-level winds, however, should prevent further development by the weekend. Formation chance through 48 hours...high...70 percent and formation chance through 7 days...high...70 percent.
Disturbance 2. Tropical Storm Fay is moving fast westward over the Central Atlantic. Fay is currently located about 955 miles WSW of the Azores and moving west at 7 MPH with maximum sustained winds of 40 MPH. Some slight strengthening is possible over the next day or so, with gradual weakening expected thereafter. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
