Ray Jenkins
May 29, 1942 – September 13, 2026
Mr. Ray “Uncle Ray” Jenkins was born in Bogalusa, LA, on May 29, 1942 and passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the age of 84.
Ray was a faithful member of Church of United Faith, he was kind and generous and always willing to help others, he was always smiling and loved to laugh. Ray was a professional commercial and residential painter for many years. He enjoyed gardening, antique collecting, woodworking especially birdhouses, and traveling with Linda in her sportscar.
Ray is survived by his wife of 49 years Linda Courtney Jenkins; sisters Betty Jenkins Graves, and Grace Jenkins Holmes; brother-in-law Rev. Leslie Courtney, Jr.; sisters-in-law Connie Courtney and Norma Courtney Coleman, Veda Delaughter Jenkins, and Lore Jenkins; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents Leonard Jenkins and Gladys Galloway Jenkins; siblings Emmett Jenkins, Genevieve Jenkins Thomas, and Michael Jenkins; nephew Gregory J. Holmes; sisters-in-law Margaret Courtney Stewart, and Sylvia Powell; brothers-in-law Royce Thomas, Jeral Holmes, James Coleman and Donald Hickman; mother-in-law Mable Smith Courtney; father-in-law Leslie Courtney Sr.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Courtney family, the special caretakers, Catherine and Brianna and Southern Grace Hospice who provided care and support during Ray’s illness. Their kindness and dedication have been a source of great comfort.
Services to honor Ray’s life will be held at Church of United Faith, 1100 Marshall Richardson Road, Bogalusa, LA 70427, on Wednesday September 16, 2026, from 11:00a.m. until the service time of 12:00 noon. Rev. Stanley Talley, Rev. Leslie Courtney, and Rev. Ken Hickman will officiate the service and interment will follow at Wilson Magee Cemetery.
