STPSO & Partners Celebrate National Night Out

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office will be partnering this year with local municipal police departments and neighborhoods throughout the parish to celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, October 6. 2026.

National Night Out is a nationwide crime prevention initiative designed to strengthen partnerships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. The event encourages residents to come together with their neighbors and local law enforcement to promote crime prevention, neighborhood awareness and community involvement.

STPSO deputies will join officers from local municipal police departments at community events in Mandeville, Slidell and Covington, building on the already successful events these agencies host each year.

The Mandeville event will take place at the Mandeville Trailhead from 5-8 p.m., the Covington event at the Covington Trailhead from 5-8 p.m. and the Slidell event at Heritage Park from 4:30-8 p.m.

For those living on the northern end of the parish, we will host an event at our 4th District Station, 81651 Highway 21, in Bush, from 5-8 p.m. that evening.

The free, family-friendly events will include information on community resources, tables from local nonprofit organizations and community groups, food, fun and a variety of children’s events and activities.

By working together, the participating law enforcement agencies hope to reinforce the message that keeping St. Tammany Parish safe is a shared effort that extends beyond jurisdictional boundaries.

“Keeping our communities safe takes all of us working together,” Sheriff Bret Ibert said. “National Night Out strengthens the relationships between our residents and law enforcement while also highlighting the strong partnerships we have with our municipal police departments. Criminals don’t pay attention to jurisdictional lines, and neither do we when it comes to working together to keep St. Tammany Parish safe.”

In addition to the larger community events, STPSO deputies will visit registered neighborhood National Night Out gatherings throughout St. Tammany Parish, giving residents an opportunity to meet and interact with the deputies who patrol their communities. However, residents are encouraged to attend one of the larger events, where they can meet deputies and officers from multiple agencies, learn more about available community resources and enjoy a variety of activities for the entire family.

Neighborhoods planning their own National Night Out celebration are encouraged to register their event with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office so deputies can stop by and join in the activities. Neighborhood events can be registered on the STPSO website – www.STPSO.com – under Community Programs tab.
