Spencer Gregory Torrence, Sr.
September 6, 1969 — August 14, 2026
Spencer Gregory Torrence was born September 6, 1969, to Melvin and Deborah Torrence in Bogalusa, LA. He was raised around family and love, where he preferred to be.
Relocating to Detroit with his parents, he attended the Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Henry Ford High School. Having a desire to further his education, he attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, developing immense relationships and bonds with longtime friends. One of the bonds was with his wife: Cheryl Torrence of 27 years, marrying on December 27, 1997, in Las Vegas, NV.
An employee of General Motors, Spencer worked for American Axle & Manufacturing as an assembly line worker. During this time, he enjoyed spending time with family in the Detroit and neighboring areas working in the yard, barbecuing in the backyard, and taking his dogs for a walk around the neighborhood. He believed in showing love and respect to everyone in his community while teaching and educating his children about the world and trying different hobbies in life such as golf, gardening, carpentry, and cooking. Spencer volunteered his free time as a football coach, mentoring the youth and his two older sons for the West 7 Rams.
After some time, in 2011, Spencer and his family moved to Hattiesburg, MS, where he worked at the Nissan Plant of Canton, MS, and later moved to Bogalusa, LA.
Spencer leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and caring wife: Cheryl Torrence, Bogalusa, LA; loving children: Sheldon (Chanel) Torrence, Detroit, MI, Corey (Kenlyn) Franklin, Hattiesburg, MS, Madison Trice, Detroit, MI, Cierra Torrence, Hattiesburg, MS, and Spencer Torrence Jr., Bogalusa, LA; grandchildren: Kaiden, Colton, Mazi, Jacob, Sheldon Jr., and Kori; a mother: Deborah Torrence, Denham Springs, LA; one brother: Saxton (Terri) Torrence, Denham Springs, LA; a father-in-law: Clarence Lutcher Sr., Los Angeles, CA, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father: Melvin Torrence; maternal and paternal grandparents, and mother-in-law: Lola Mae Lutcher.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 11:00AM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Danny S. Young, Officiating.
