Folsom Resident Convicted of Sex Crimes Involving a 4-Year-Old

District Attorney J. Collin Sims announced on Thursday (August 13, 2026) that a St. Tammany Parish jury found 23-year-old Jamonte Keenan Crosby, originally from San Pablo, California, and residing in Folsom, Louisiana, at the time of the offense, guilty as charged of Sexual Battery Involving a Victim Under the Age of 13 and Indecent Behavior Involving a Victim Under the Age of 13. The guilty verdict was delivered following a trial presided over by the Honorable Judge Tara Farris Zeller. Assistant District Attorneys Taylor Nicholson and Zachary Popovich prosecuted the case on behalf of the State.

"Protecting the most vulnerable members of our community is the absolute highest priority of this office," said District Attorney Collin Sims. "This defendant preyed on a four-year-old child's innocence and trust. Thanks to the meticulous work of law enforcement, the bravery of this young victim, and the relentless prosecution by our team, justice has been served, and this predator will be held fully accountable."

The investigation began after a four-year-old boy disclosed to his mother that Crosby had subjected him to physical abuse and exposed himself to the child. Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, Special Victims Unit, led the investigation. Through consecutive forensic interviews, the young victim provided clear and consistent details regarding the abuse. Investigators established that Crosby took advantage of a private setting to abuse the child and show him graphic content on his phone. Following the initial investigation, STPSO Detectives secured an arrest warrant for Crosby, who was subsequently located, arrested, and extradited from California to face trial in St. Tammany Parish.

During closing arguments, Assistant District Attorney Taylor Nicholson emphasized how the defendant deliberately targeted the young victim: "He looked for an opportunity," ADA Taylor Nicholson told the jury. "The victim wanted to learn how to be a superhero that day. Instead, he was taken advantage of by a predator."

In rebuttal, Assistant District Attorney Zachary Popovich highlighted the victim's truthfulness and the severe nature of Crosby's actions: "Even though it's hard to listen to, the evidence proves that this defendant is guilty," ADA Zachary Popovich stated. "What happened to the victim is every single parent's worst nightmare. The victim did what every single parent begs their kids to do. He was too innocent to make this up." Popovich added, "These crimes are crimes of opportunity - all he needed was a few seconds. Deep down, what he really is, is a thief - he made a decision that day to rob this little boy of his innocence."

Judge Tara Farris Zeller has scheduled Crosby's sentencing for September 8, 2026.
