Obituary

Jeanine Corkern Knight

December 10, 1935 — July 11, 2026

Jeanine Corkern Knight, affectionally known as “Maw Maw Neen”, 90 years young and of Bogalusa, LA, peacefully departed this earthly life to gloriously meet her Lord and Savior on July 11, 2026.

Born on December 10, 1935 in Roseland, LA, the 1st of twin girls to Jesse W. and Myrtis Mixon Corkern.

She attended Bogalusa Schools and graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1954.

Her early religious training began at Calvary Baptist Church in Bogalusa, LA. Her mother was a devoted Christian and Sunday School teacher. Church was mandatory, no excusses.

She was married to her husband Charles R. Knight for 27 years until his death in 1981. As an Airforce wife, she traveled a good bit. Upon her husband’s early retirement due to health issues, her family moved to Bogalusa where she lived the rest of her life.

Jeanine exhibited a Godly servant’s heart as she was active in church her entire life.

As an adult, she became a member of Superior Avenue Baptist Church. She worshipped and served there for almost 60 years. She taught Children’s Sunday School, Sunbeams, and Team Kids. She was most proud serving as Chairman of the Special Services Committee, an honor that she held for many years. During the transition of relocating to the new church building, her hope was to live long enough to be able to sit on a new pew with her family beside her and also, see the new kitchen!

Throughout her life she enjoyed many things. Being a member of her Homemakers group sewing, crafting and quilting. One of her greatest accomplishments was gifting each child, grandchild and great grandchild a hand made quilt. She enjoyed reading and trading western and romance books with friends, loved watching westerns on T.V., putting together puzzles and listening to her collection of record albums. She especially loved traveling including cruises and bus tours with her family and friends.

Jeanine is preceded in death by her husband Charles R. Knight, her first born, a son Michael Bruce, her parents, her siblings Hazel Sinopli, Jesse Corkern Jr., Shirley Stogner and Imogene McGraw, her twin.

Jeanine is survived by her four children, Kay (Charlie) Carney, Laurie (Rhonda) Knight, Mark (Monica) Knight, and Alan (Debbie) Knight, her grandchildren Cody (Meagan) Carney, Kristi (John Chevalier) Carney, Jessica (Trent) Costello, Aiden Knight, Jacob (Tiffany) Knight, Hannah (Sinnot) Martin, McKenzie Knight, Raven (Matthew) Schnider, and Jessica Nettles, she is also survived by her great grandchildren Caden, Shelbylee, Crockett, Creed, and Merritt Carney, Camden and Kaylie Chevalier, Chloe Knight, Madeline Martin, Cohen and Hudson Schnider, her loving sister Evelyn (William) Ratcliff as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

Jeanine was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She will be greatly missed.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.      Revelation 21:4
