Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit have arrested 33-year-old Marcus Stewart in connection with a shooting that occurred Monday (July 20, 2026) afternoon in the 4300 block of Birch Street near Slidell.
STPSO patrol deputies and detectives were dispatched Monday afternoon to a property in the 4300 block of Birch Street after receiving a report that a man had been shot. Detectives learned the victim, who lives on the property, had gotten into an altercation with Stewart and Stewart allegedly produced a firearm and shot the victim in the abdomen. The victim fled the scene in his vehicle and drove to a nearby family member's home, where 911 was called. He was transported by emergency medical personnel from that residence to an area hospital.
Stewart was located later Monday evening at a residence in Pearl River. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on one count each of Attempted Second-Degree Murder, Obstruction of Justice and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
