Helen Frances Varnado

July 24, 1943 - May 30, 2026

Helen Frances Varnado, age 82 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away Saturday evening May 30, 2026 at Riverside Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was retired after a 47 year career with the Franklinton Activity Center, now known as the Franklinton Association for Challenged Citizens. “Franny”, as she was known to her many clients through the years, loved each and every one like they were her own children. She took great pride in helping them learn and be active with their own family and friends. She was instrumental in beginning the Independent Living program and assisted any way that she could to care for all their needs. Fran was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church that truly loved the Lord and her church family. Earlier in life, she was a horse lover and showed beautiful Quarter Horses for many years. Fran loved taking care of her family and grandchildren and really enjoyed all the times they went out to eat together. She had a special place in her heart for her pet dog “Buffy”.

Survived by: 3 Daughters and Sons in law: Lesia and Ricky McQueen of Franklinton, Debbie and Craig Parker of the Plainview Community, Lori Creel and Tim Fuchic of Bogalusa; Grandchildren and Spouses: Dustin and Heather Jenkins, Jeremy Vince, Jessica Vince, Stephanie Swords, Jeffrey and Diane Goings, Katie and Adam Brumfield, Joshua and Holly Yates, Justin and Amanda Yates, Caleb and Justin Parker, Hunter and Jessica Creel, Rusty and Karli Stevens, Tessie Taylor; Also survived by many beloved great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and other family members

She was preceded in death by her daughter Kim Hartzog, daughter and son in law Sandy and David Stevens, husband Billy E. Varnado, parents Charles Chumley and Helen Green Chumley, sister and brother in law Linda and Wayne Brumfield and other family members.

A memorial service for Fran’s family and friends will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in the near future.
